Willian drops Instagram hint over Mikel Arteta's Arsenal team selection vs Burnley
Willian looks set to earn a recall to the Arsenal starting lineup for this evening's Premier League clash against Burnley.
It's the third game in the space of seven days for the Gunners following a 2-0 defeat in the North London Derby away at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend as well as a trip to Ireland to face Dundalk in the Europa League.
Willian, who played the entire 90 minutes against Spurs, was one of several Arsenal senior players who did not feature in the 4-2 win over Dundalk on Thursday evening.
But the summer signing from Chelsea has trained with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of the visit of Burnley so is available for selection.
Manager Mikel Arteta could name a much stronger side in comparison to the team that started three days ago as he looks for the win that would lift the Gunners into 14th place.
"Absolutely, and we can do nothing right now about what happened in the last few weeks," Arteta said. "We know the home form is going to be vital for our success and we have to change that immediately.
"So, if we want to have any hope of doing something important and relevant this season, it has to be by winning the games at home.
"It’s not just about character, because at the end you have to win football matches, you have to make a lot of decisions on that pitch and everybody has to contribute for that.
"So it’s not just about how much I want it, because it’s an opponent in front of you that are going to minimise your strengths and maximise your weaknesses.
"What I can tell you is that the team will be prepared to battle with a real desire because we know how important that game is going to be for us."Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
It looks like Willian, as expected, will return to the Arsenal matchday squad if his social media activity is anything to go by.
Taking to Instagram, the 32-year-old has done his best to hype up the big game in north London which would suggest he's in line for a recall.
Interestingly, Willian did similar seven days ago when he was named in the starting XI against Spurs.
So it would appear that Arteta is planning to name his strongest available team to ensure the Gunners don't suffer four straight home defeats in the Premier League.

Willian warmed up for the visit of Burnley with a brilliant goal in training.
Swapping passes with a teammate, the 32-year-old found himself in a 1v1 situation against an Arsenal goalkeeper and produced a delicate chip to find the back of the net.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that's a sign of things to come as Willian is yet to open his account in 14 appearances across all competitions since arriving from Chelsea.
