AFL finals 2020 live updates: Wasteful Geelong Cats' inaccuracy keeping the Brisbane Lions in preliminary final

Geelong face the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night for the right to meet Richmond in the 2020 grand final next week.

Geelong's wastefulness could very well come back to haunt them in the long run.

They're leading the scoring shots 12-7, disposals 157-130, clearances 21-17, inside 50s 26-15, contested possessions 62-55 and hitouts 24-20, but only lead by five points.

Brisbane, led by Neale, were much better in the clearances and contested possessions that quarter.

LATE CHANGEDarcy Gardiner (knee) was replaced in the Brisbane Lions’ selected side by Jack Payne.

Cam Guthrie tackles Bailey high and gives away the free kick with one second remaining in the quarter!

But from 40m out on the boundary, Bailey's checkside punt misses to the right as the siren sounds.

Neale's running shot on goal from 50m out bounces through! He is having a huge quarter with nine disposals (seven contested) as well.

Miers drops the easy chest mark inside 50 and instead of having a straightforward set shot from 40m out, he is forced to play on and his shot on goal under pressure misses to the right.

The Cats have now kicked 4.8, they should be up by a lot more than two goals. Will these costly misses come back to bite them?

There have already been some great goals tonight, and Rohan's effort was definitely one of them

Miers, Selwood and Rohan combine to get it to Menegola who streams into the open goal but misses from 20m out!! That's a sitter!

Geelong still leading the disposals 119-96, clearances 18-12, marks 24-21, inside 50s 18-9, contested possessions 52-40, hitouts 20-16 and scoring shots 9-5, but the Lions are starting to close the gap on some of those categories. The home team has been much better since quarter-time.

Leading disposals: McCluggage 9, Neale 9, Parfitt 9

Ablett is bemusingly penalised for pushing Neale in the back 20m out from Brisbane's goal when it looked clearly like a legal tackle! Ablett is rightfully protesting the umpire vigorously, but to no avail.

However, from point-blank range, Neale sprays it to left. So the footy gods were perhaps looking at that one!

Neale has had a big quarter with six touches already.
