Is Facebook Messenger down? Facebook, Instagram and Messenger problems reported worldwide
Social media users are venting their frustration after the popular social media app Facebook Messenger crashed on Thursday.
According to Down Detector, the issues started at around 9am in the UK/8pm in Sydney.
The problem is affecting users across the UK, Europe, Australia and other parts of the world.
Users can compose a message, but sending and receiving is a problem.
The reason for the issue is not yet clear.
Users in the UK and Europe have also reported problems with Facebook itself as well as Instagram.
Frustrated users have taken to other social media platforms to figure out what’s going on - and complain.
“Is Facebook Messenger down? I cannot send and receive messages!” one wrote on Twitter.
“Either Facebook messenger is down on my phone or my wifi is extremely poor,” another said.
“Let me text my friends back!”
Problems have been reported in France, Belgium, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, India, the UK and parts of Australia and south-east Asia.
Some complained that they were in the middle of doing group work via Messenger when it went down.
Others said there was just a long lag time or delay before messages were sent.
“Anyone elses messenger saying its not delivering messages, but the other person is receiving them?” one person asked.
“Then receiving their messages with a huge delay.
“Also saying there’s an unread message but won’t let me read it.”
