"iCarly" Reboot Will Star Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and More
Eternal Nickelodeon classic iCarly is getting the reboot treatment. The popular series that first premiered in 2007 is headed for Paramount Plus, and many of the original cast members are returning.
As reported by TVLine, former iCarly stars, including Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Nathan Kress (Freddie), and Jerry Trainor (Spencer) are all slated to appear in the updated series, which will eventually premiere on the Paramount+ streaming service.
There's no word yet on when the iCarly reboot might eventually premiere, but fans are already celebrating. “ICARLY Coming back in 2021 you love to see it just was saying I miss this show a week ago and now there is a reboot coming in 2021,” one person wrote. And another person was already emotional, tweeting, "ICARLY IS COMING BACK I REPEAT ICARLY IS COMING BACK I AM GONNA CRY IN A FREAKING CORNER!"
As for a possible reboot storyline, the show's new team could always look to a past idea from Miranda. In a 2016 interview, she touched on the story's continued focus on Carly's adventure with her brother, Spencer, suggesting that any future version of the series should explore what happened to Carly's mom. As fans of the series know, the pair's father was a U.S. Air Force officer stationed in a submarine, but the show never explored the story of Carly's mother.
The former Nickelodeon series isn't the only show to get the reboot treatment. Back in 2019, Nickelodeon announced the return of its comedy-sketch series, All That, and earlier this year, the cast of Zoey 101 took part in a virtual reunion, hinting that work on a reboot of the series continued.
