James Courtney and Tickford to continue partnership into 2021 Supercars season

James Courtney and his sponsor will remain with Tickford for a second Supercars season.

TICKFORD Racing has resigned veteran Supercars driver James Courtney for the 2021 season.

The good news comes after a tumultuous year for Courtney, who abruptly left Team Sydney at the start of the year after just two races, leaving him without a full-time drive for the rest of 2020.

Courtney and Boost Mobile, his major sponsor, partnered with Tickford in May of 2020 to fill the entry left vacant following the withdrawal of 23Red Racing.

With the Australian Grand Prix halted in March due to COVID-19, it meant Courtney was able to return to the grid without having missed a single race.

Since the resumption of the Supercars season in late June, Courtney has added four top four finishes to his record, his best this year being a second at Hidden Valley in August.

He sits 13th in the Supercars drivers' championship heading into Sunday's Bathurst 1000.

"This year's been an absolute roller coaster with all that's gone on, but to end up here at Tickford thanks to Boost Mobile has been amazing, and to continue this relationship into 2021 is just fantastic," Courtney said.

"I've developed great relationships with the boys on my car, the team has been super welcoming since day one, and fortunately we've been able to score some strong results on track, too.

"I really couldn't have asked for a better place to be, and the partnership has been great for Boost as well. I guess the saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', so it makes sense for all of us to keep the party going."

Courtney will participate in Saturday afternoon's top 10 shootout, having finished up 9th in Friday's qualifying session at Mount Panorama.

He will compete in Sunday's race with co-driver Broc Feeney, who is making his Bathurst debut on the day of his 18th birthday.

In 2019, Courtney finished on the podium in third place with then co-driver Jack Perkins, his fourth podium finish from 14 starts.
