Lewis Capaldi celebrates double win at Brits 2020
Lewis Capaldi was basically all of us as he thew some questionable poses in the direction of photographers while celebrating his double win at the Brits this year.
The Before You Go hit-maker rocked up to Universal’s star-studded after party held at The Ned in London and on his arrival, he threw up some peace signs and a quick thumbs up before making his way inside.
Werk it, Lewis. Werrrk.
The singer was undoubtedly loving life after winning two awards, best new artist and song of the year, thanks to his chart topper Someone You Loved, at this year’s Brits, held at the O2 on Tuesday night.
And, of course, he couldn’t help but address all the rumours that the hit was inspired by his ex-girlfriend Paige Turley, who, of course, is now starring on Love Island.
Lewis has said before that it’s actually about his dead nan and Paige was the inspo behind another of his tracks, Hold Me While You Wait. But wanting to put it out there one time, Lewis set the record straight in true Capaldi fashion.
‘Hello, hahaha. Hello. My name is Lewis, thanks very much for this,’ he said on stage while accepting his award.
‘Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people think this song is about my ex-girlfriend who you can now see every night on Love Island.
‘But it is actually about my grandmother who sadly, sadly passed away a few years ago and I hope to God that ITV don’t contact her to be a on a reality dating TV show.’
Lewis finished: ‘But thank you so much, this has been the best, best year of my life.’
Ahead of the Brits, Lewis proved he hasn’t always been dominating in the music biz and actually it took a while for people to see him as a serious artist.
Taking to Instagram, Lewis shared a savage rejection text he was sent once when he was 17 years old, with the sender calling him an ‘amateur’ and suggesting he ‘sounds pants’.
It read: ‘I’d like to give you some constructive criticism here as I’m guessing your new-ish to the scene.
‘To be honest, you need to work on your approach here, the first line put me off, “looking for paid gigs”, and your whole profile shouts amateur.More: Entertainment
‘You’re trying to cover too many bases and there really isn’t a genre “singer/songwriter”… and “we often have people up dancing to our stuff” no, it sounds pants.
‘And I’d have a hard time getting people interested in “Adam and Lewis” so I’d sort that out too. Hope you don’t think that’s me being harsh, I’m trying to help you guys as playing live music is awesome and well done for having some balls.’
Two Brit Awards later and we reckon that sender’s now kicking themselves, you?
