Jesy Nelson quits Little Mix with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall after nine years

A member of one of most successful girl group’s of all time has announced she will leave the band after almost a decade.

Little Mix just got smaller, with star Jesy Nelson announcing she will leave the popular UK girl group after almost a decade.

The 29-year-old broke the news to fans in a lengthy statement on Instagram today, revealing that being in the chart-topping band has “taken a toll on my mental health”.

“The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life,” Nelson wrote.

“I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

“You have always been there to support me and encourage me and I will never forget it.”

Nelson went on to reveal her personal struggles whilst in the limelight, citing “constant pressure” and “expectations” on the girl group in her decision to leave the four-piece.

But the singer assured fans it came with a “heavy heart”.

“There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focus on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process,” she said.

Nelson’s former bandmates — Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall — said it was an “incredibly sad time” but that they are “fully supportive” of their former member.

“We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being,” they wrote in a joint statement.

“We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans.

“We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us.”

The remaining trio also quickly put questions over the future of the band to bed, saying they are “not ready” for it to be over — despite rumours the band was splitting to pursue solo careers.

Little Mix rose to fame after becoming the first group to with the UK series of The X Factor in 2011.

The group has gone on to sell 50 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time.
