Tensions boiled over between MMA legend Mark Hunt and NRL great Paul Gallen at the weigh-ins for one of Australia’s biggest ever boxing cards, the Sydney Super Fight.

After weighing in at just over 127 kilograms, a full 24 kilos heavier than his opponent, Hunt took several swings at a smiling Gallen and had to be held back by his team.

He went again seconds later, as Gallen continued to get under the combat sports great’s skin ahead of their co-main event on Wednesday night.

‘KEEP TALKING SH*T’: Presser turns HEATED as Gallen answer gets Hunt riled up

“Five years this has been in the making. He’s been talking a whole lot of garbage, and now we’re here. It’s showtime for this guy, let’s see if he can cut it,” Hunt said.

“(His talk) increases my fire to put him to sleep.”

Gallen (9-0-1, 5 KOs) admitted he didn’t know whether he could stop Hunt, but said he’s ready to go the full six rounds to keep his unbeaten record in tact.

“That’s a bit shocking that,” he said of Hunt’s wild swings.

“He’s trying to intimidate me - we said from day one we’d be professionals, it’d be a respectful build-up, but that shocked me a little bit.

“As I’ve said from day one, I don’t need any motivation ... I’m just here to get the win, go home to the family and have some fun for Christmas.”

The unbeaten Tim Tszyu (16-0, 12 KOs) headlines on Wednesday night, defending his IBF Australasian and WBO Global light-middleweight titles against Kiwi Bowyn Morgan (21-1, 11 KOs).

Tszyu’s bout with Morgan may be a world title eliminator, with the Aussie in line to face WBO champion Patrick Teixeira next - if he wins, and if Teixeira’s fight with Brian Castano can’t be made before January 6.

“Some people thrive on pressure, and I’m one of them,” Tszyu said about the potential for the world title fight.
