Panthers skipper James Tamou was penalised for taking Rabbitohs captain Adam Reynolds out after he kicked the ball.

However replays showed that Tamou didn’t come into contact with the kicker and just fell on the ground with Reynolds falling on top of him.

“I’m not even sure he comes into contact with Reynolds,” Braith Anasta said on Fox League.

“That is a tough one because he tries to pull out and Reynolds trips over. It is the softest of challenges and that is extremely unlucky.”

“That is not a penalty,” Ben Ikin agreed.

“No way. James Tamou fell on the ground and Adam Reynolds landed on him.”

However Reynolds inexplicably hooked the easy conversion by his standards giving the Panthers a 20-metre drop out.

Off the ensuing set the Panthers held the Rabbitohs out, but in trying to get the ball out of their red zone Corey Allan came up with a one-on-one strip on Dylan Edwards.

Cody Walker went within inches of scoring, before the ball came to Reynolds who kicked wide for his winger.

The brilliant kick assist landed on the chest of Rabbitohs flyer Alex Johnston to give the Bunnies a 6-0 lead after a frantic opening six minutes.

Two minutes later the Panthers squared the scores with a try to Brian To’o off a Rabbitohs mistake to make it 6-6 to cap an enthralling opening 10 minutes.
