Vintage Peter Siddle steers Strikers to first BBL win of the season

Adelaide notch first win of BBL season

Strikers paceman Peter Siddle has produced his best ever bowling figures as Adelaide notched their first win of the BBL season against the Hobart Hurricanes.

A vintage Siddle was on full display for the Strikers, claiming his first-ever BBL five-wicket haul, with figures of 5/16 in 3.3 overs in the first innings of tonight's match.

Siddle's big night helped restrict the Hurricanes to just 146 runs before the Strikers chased down the total with 8 balls to spare, winning the match by five wickets.

The 36-year-old claimed the all-important wicket of Hurricanes star batsman D'Arcy Short, who was dismissed for just 2 runs, while Mac Wright, Tim David, James Faulkner and Riley Meredith were victims of the former Australian Test bowler's historic night.

Alex Carey, 55 from 40 deliveries, and Jake Weatherald, 68 not out, starred for Adelaide in their run chase.

"This game is all about execution, and we have seen it at its absolute best tonight with Peter Siddle," Ricky Ponting told Channel Seven.

"That's quite an appropriate celebration for someone who just got his first (five-fa)."
