It looks like the Cambridge kids have a new cousin on the way. Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Kate Middleton and aunt to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, is reportedly expecting her second child with her husband James Matthews.
The news was first announced by Page Six and subsequently confirmed by Harper's Bazaar. "Pippa and James are thrilled, it's fantastic news amid a difficult year. The entire family is delighted," a source close to the family told Page Six.
The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Arthur Matthews, in October of 2018, just a few months after Kate gave birth to Prince Louis. Pippa and James have been married since May of 2016, and despite being closely related to the heirs to the British throne, neither their son nor the new baby will hold a royal title. As Marlene Koenig, a royal historian and writer of the Royal Musings blog, explained to Town & Country after Arthur's birth in 2018,"Pippa is Mrs. James Matthews, [so] her kids will be Master or Miss Christian name Matthews. No titles whatsoever."
Pippa and her husband will, however, hold honorary titles one day, as the Laird and Lady of Glen Affic. This is because James's father, David Matthews, purchased the 10,000-acre Glen Affric estate in the Scottish Highlands in 2008. "[James's] father bought a feudal barony," Koenig explains. "'Laird' is not a title, but a description applied by those living on and around the estate. Ownership of a souvenir plot of land does not bring with it the right to any description such as 'laird,' 'lord,' or 'lady.'"
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe agreed: "[James] will become a Laird, but that’s not anything like a Dukedom or a title."
