The reason – A Google search on Rashid Khan’s wife threw up the result of Anushka Sharma, who is the wife of India cricket team skipper Virat Kohli. The ensuing Google search bug made massive news around Rashid Khan, with many finding it hilarious.
However, the topic of Rashid Khan’s marriage also cropped up. Many were searching to find out whether Rashid Khan is indeed married or not. However, the 22-year-old has clarified that he is not married and he is not even intending to marry in the near future! The reason – It is a story of greater glory for a nation that has been plagued by wars and depression.
In an interview a couple of months back, Rashid Khan told in an interview to Azad Radio that he will not think about marriage until Afghanistan has not won the ICC Cricket World Cup. Afghanistan has been a regular in the ICC World Cup events since 2010 with the ICC World T20 in the West Indies.
Afghanistan made their debut in the ODI World Cup in 2015 held in Australia and New Zealand and they created history when they won their first match against Scotland in Dunedin by one wicket. However, in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Afghanistan did not win a single game although they came close to beating India and Pakistan. Rashid Khan is one of the finest players to have come out of Afghanistan in the modern era. His legspin and economy make him an asset in any format. Rashid Khan has been the backbone of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s success in the IPL and he is a valued asset.
Rashid Khan has several records to his name. He is the fastest to 100 ODI wickets, having achieved it in 44 games. In March 2017 against Ireland in Greater Noida, Rashid Khan took his maiden T20I five-wicket haul at the second T20I against Ireland. His figures of five wickets for three runs is the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricket in a T20I and the joint fourth-best figures in all T20Is.
In the same year, in June, Rashid Khan took his second ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7/18 against the West Indies at Gros Islet. It was the fourth best ODI bowling figures and first by an associate nation cricketer to take 7 wickets.
After a torrid debut in Tests against India, he picked up a five-wicket haul against Ireland in Lucknow and in 2019, he created history when he led Afghanistan to a maiden series win in Bangladesh.
