KL Rahul speaks at the toss - “We were also looking to bat first. Just looking to get a couple of wickets and put pressure on them. We all feel we deserve more than two points. Everybody knows that all games are must wins for us from hereon. It’s not a bad place to be in, we need to bring our A game and do our best. Three changes: Mandeep got injured yesterday, and Prabsimran and Mujeeb miss out. Gayle, Hooda and Ashwin come in.”
RCB skipper Virat Kohli speaks at toss - “We will bat first. It looks like a dry surface and got considerably slower the last night. RCB means a lot, not many understand that emotion. 200 games for them is unbelievable, I wouldn’t have believed it in 2008. It is an honour, they’ve kept me and I have stayed on. When the team wins you look good as a captain. There have been many individuals who have put their hands up even after two losses. It’s only halfway and we have to keep it up. We are unchanged.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore are going unchanged. Good news for KXIP as Chris Gayle comes in for the first time in IPL 2020. He replaces Mujeeb ur Rahman as an overseas player. Two more changes for Kings XI Punjab - Prabhsimran Singh, MAndeep Singh out, Deepak Hooda, Murugan Ashwin in.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli(c), AB de Villiers(w), Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Kings XI Punjab (Playing XI): Chris Gayle, KL Rahul(w/c), Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, Chris Jordan, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh
Royal Challengers Bangalore win toss, opt to bat first.
“It looks a good wicket. A bit of brightness on this wicket so I think it is going to be quicker. It’s going to be more of an even contest between bat and ball. Although the wickets have slowed up, this one should be better. Win the toss and bat,” reckons Kevin Pietersen on Star Sports.
“I think I am playing today. Looking forward to it and everyone’s been waiting for this opportunity. It is time to see the Universe Boss out there in the middle. It is disappointing to not start, you don’t come here to sit around. But it is what it is. Today is my opportunity and I am happier for the fans. I’ll look to do what I do best, entertain as much as possible and be Chris Gayle as always. No pressure on me, absolutely, to be honest,” said Chris Gayle.
We are 15 minutes away from the toss and since the game will be played in Sharjah, the team which wins the toss, opts to bat first. However, it has to be noted that the number of sixes hit at Sharjah have reduced drastically in last six matches.
“It’s great to see individuals step up when the team requires. Bowling unit, with Morris coming in, looks all the more potent. The three-week camp helped us. We have clarity of plans. Know exactly what we want to do on the field. It’s very positive.”
“A little bit of luck will help. If you look at the first game, we scored more runs than Delhi, the umpire wrongly called a short run (KXIP lost in the Super Over). We could have started with two wins in a row, and then we bowled one bad over against RR which ended up getting them back into the game. Unfortunately, little moments like that haven’t been taken. We’ve spoken at length about taking those key moments. In T20, you make one mistake and it can sort of get compounded. We feel we’ve played good cricket this year to win most of our games, we just haven’t been on the right side of luck in this tournament. In T20, luck can play a big part, and teams riding their luck and going well with it can get on a bit of a run,” said Maxwell to HT.

Even in the last game we were in a position from where we should have won but again we couldn’t cross the line. So that’s something when we are in a position like that again, we should capitalise on that. I think it’s about going out there and playing freely and not worrying too much.
