UFC lightweight Justin Jaynes stepped in as a late replacement for Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 184. But he’s probably regretting that decision now, after a brutal beat down left him with a sickening eye injury.

After struggling in the first round, Jaynes copped a battering in the second period when Devonte Smith pinned him to the ground and landed a series of elbows and punches to the face.

Smith stood back up after failing to land a rear-naked choke again, with referee Keith Peterson allowing Jaynes to return to his feet – before immediately calling time-out and bringing in the ringside doctor.

It took the doctor under five seconds to make his decision, as Peterson waved off the fight with Jaynes being unable to see due to blood-filled swelling under the eye.

Smith now has 11 wins including 10 by knockout (3-1 record in the UFC), and is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous up-and-comers in the UFC.

Justin Jaynes meanwhile slumps to a 1-3 UFC record after three straight defeats, with a 16-7 MMA record overall.

Yeah, nasty mouse under Justin Jaynes's eye. Good call to stop the fight. #UFCVegas18

I wish there wasn't an immediate reaction to shit on the official and medical person.

Great job by Keith Peterson. Had to stop that. #UFCVegas18

Great win for Devonte Smith, pretty dominant and caused Justin Jaynes' eye to grow a second head #UFCVegas18
