‘Stay off the drink’: Radley told to ‘pull his head in’ during brutal dressing down

Roosters star Victor Radley has been urged to “stay off the drink” after he was kicked off a plane while allegedly being intoxicated.

The NRL is investigating an incident involving Radley. It’s understood he was kicked off a Gold Coast flight while on his way home from watching his mate make his NRL debut for the Roosters on Saturday.

Radley flew separately from the Roosters squad but after being kicked off his original flight home, he had to fly back to Sydney with club officials on Sunday.

The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Kent told NRL 360 that the Roosters claim their star forward was “just laughing loudly,” but Ray Hadley isn’t buying it.

“The Roosters say he was just laughing loudly. We understand he had a few drinks and the flight crew took him off,” Kent said.

“He had to fly home the next day with Roosters officials in what might’ve been quite a frosty flight.”

Hadley believes Radley is in hot water for more than just laughing and what’s to see the 23-year-old “pull his head in” in order to “fulfil his potential.”

“I’ve been on a fair few flights and it’s almost impossible to get thrown off a plane for laughing. I mean really? Victor obviously has a couple of issues,” he told NRL 360.

“When he got suspended recently he took on the NRL and said ‘I’m not going to change my game and what I do’. Well, you’re going to spend a lot of time on the sidelines.

“But he’s like a lot of young blokes, he should stay off the drink and that’s what his coach and mentors should do.

“You can be a larrikin without not getting thrown off a flight, the flight attendants don’t do that lightly. You’ve got to remember that there will have been a stack of people on the aircraft who were then held up for appointments in Sydney or whatever.

“It’s very inconsiderate, we’ve all been on planes where people have been a bit loud but there’s nothing worse than being next to someone who is elephant trunk.

“He’s making a couple (of mistakes) and he needs to pull his head in.

“It’s very simple, he’s an elite player and with that goes responsibility. If you’re playing A-Grade in the park you can probably get away with being drunk but not if you’re an NRL player.

“I want him to fulfil his potential and he’s got to do that on and off the field.”

Just three months ago Radley was fined $20,000, with half of that suspended, for another off-field incident in Byron Bay last December.

Kent says it’s likely the other half of that fine will be activated now.

“That’s twice within six months, he had the December 30 incident at Byron Bay. The NRL suspended him and fined him $20,000, $10,000 of which was suspended,” he said.

“I dare say that’s going to be enacted, so this flight is going to cost him at least $10,000 if not more.”
