A teenager left fighting for his life after allegedly being stabbed by knife-wielding thugs is reportedly a close teenage relative of Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins.

The incident, which started in a park on Herring Road at Macquarie Park in Sydney's north-west last Sunday, left the 14-year-old in a critical condition.

Police allege the injured boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was involved in a fight with a group of teenagers in the park before fleeing to Macquarie University train station where he was allegedly stabbed by one of the teens.

Seven News reports he is a relative of Pat Cummins.

Footage shared on social media showed the alleged attackers taunting the victim, demanding he 'say sorry'.
