James Gunn Reacts To Dwayne Johnsons Comment On Black
Dwayne Johnson confirmed that Black Adam is not a part of the new DCU, but James Gunn is looking forward to future collaborations.

Filmmaker James Gunn has been in the news a lot since he took over his new position at DC. The co-president of the media conglomerate has had to explain some of his decisions regarding the DC Universe, and he is now in the spotlight due to Black Adam. After Dwayne Johnson confirmed that his antihero will not be a part of the reformed DCU, Gunn has now shared his response to the entire situation.

When Black Adam was first released, fans were excited to see Henry Cavill return as Superman and were looking forward to seeing what happens next. However, it seems like Gunn and his colleague Peter Safran are wiping the slate clean. It was first confirmed that Cavill will not return as Superman in the DCU, and now Johnson's fate has also been revealed. While fans are not pleased, Gunn seems to have a reason for all his decisions.

Johnson first shared his statement on Black Adam, confirming that he had met with Gunn to discuss the DCU and that “Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.” Johnson brought Cavill back as Superman, and with the latter no longer a part of the DCU, fans expected Johnson to go next. Gunn responded to Johnson's revelation and shared his appreciation for the actor. “Love @TheRock and I'm always excited to see what he and Seven Bucks do next. Can't wait to collaborate soon,” read his tweet.

However, based on both their messages, fans are hopeful that there is a possibility of a future collaboration. Johnson's message revealed that “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.” Gunn also spoke about collaborating in the future. This has left fans feeling slightly positive that perhaps there is an opportunity to bring back their favorite DC heroes into the new DCU at some point in the future. Referring to a “multiverse” has also caught the attention of fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it could potentially mean multiple plotlines.

Several changes have been made in the DCU since Gunn and Safran took over, and Gunn has had to respond to the backlash regarding their decisions. “Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story and best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years,” he wrote in a previous tweet, defending the duo's decisions.

Black Adam is streaming on HBO Max.
