Match Report: NSW Cup Round 16 vs Bulldogs

Western Suburbs Magpies have succumbed to a 38-16 defeat to the Bulldogs in Round 16 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup.  

While the Magpies led 10-4 at half-time, Canterbury produced a strong second-half performance to score a comprehensive victory.   

NRL Development Player Solomone Saukuru crashed over after nine minutes to give the Magpies an early lead, with the centre proving powerful on the edge all afternoon. 

A barnstorming run through the middle of the field from Tim Johannssen then led to James Valevatu grabbing a loose ball to score on the ensuing play.  

Canterbury struck shortly after though, with young winger Jonathan Sua displaying electric pace to race down the left touchline for the Bulldogs’ first score.  

Poasa Faamausili’s try levelled proceedings for the visitors, before Bailey Hodges powered through to grab his second four-pointer in as many weeks at NSW Cup level to put Wests back in front.  

Kitione Kautoga pushed through to grab a powerful try for Canterbury after 53 minutes, with Hayze Perham then supporting a break on the inside to give the Bulldogs the lead. 

Joseph O’Neill put Canterbury further ahead, while Jordan Samrani grabbed a late double to extend the Bulldogs lead out to 38-16 at full-time.
