LIVE NRL: Scores locked up as Papenhuyzen makes statement on his return

Ryan Papenhuyzen has scored on his long-awaited return from an ankle injury as the Melbourne Storm clash with the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium, with scores locked at 18-18 at half-time.

Papenhuyzen, who’s been out with an ankle injury since Round 9, crossed for his 11th minute following some exceptional work from the Storm.

After a pass hit the deck midway through a Melbourne set out of trouble and rolled a few metres behind the Storm’s attack, five-eighth Tyran Wishart smartly found Grant Anderson down the left edge.

Anderson released an overlapping Jack Howarth down the sideline, who streaked away before finding Anderson, who in turn found Papenhuyzen.

Papenhuyzen’s try levelled the scores at 6-6 after Kenny Bromwich opened the game’s scoring in the ninth minute.

Bromwich, who has been shifted into the back row after winger Jack Bostock was ruled out of the game with a HIA, surged onto an Isaiya Katoa pass for his four pointer.

Euan Aitken crossed in the corner 10 minutes later to return the lead to the Dolphins before Tyran Wishart capped continued his fine month of footy by scoring under the post following another Melbourne raid down the outside to level the scores.

But, as in the blow-for-blow nature of this game, the Dolphins returned serve moments later through livewire fullback Trai Fuller, who crossed following a simple scrum play inside Melbourne’s 20.

Then, just as the Dolphins looked to take a lead into half-time a piece of Jahrome Hughes ingenuity ensured the scores were level at the interval.
