Queensland pub enforces controversial antieshay dress code

A Queensland pub has taken the bold step of enforcing a ban on clothing typically associated with the "eshay" youth subculture.

Falvey Hotel Yamanto released a list of clothing that won't be allowed, including hooded jumpers, bum bags, Nike TN solid red shoes and muscle t-shirts.

Hotel owner Michael Falvey said there is a certain clientele who wear those clothes and they are not welcome at his venue.

"They're just the common denominator of the people we saw causing trouble, the lad bag and the Nike TNs and the like," he told Today.

"We couldn't ban the mullet because here in Ipswich, there's people who've had the mullet since it was cool the first time."

The eshay subculture is typified by the use of pig latin, streetwear and some genres of music.

Being a Queensland pub, thongs are a fashion staple for a lot of patrons, so Michael clarified that thongs are allowed - up until 7pm.

"They certainly can wear thongs, I know that it's caused a bit of a stir, but ideally, we don't want you to wear thongs after 7pm so if you have a problem, go the easy option and put on a pair of shoes."

Karl Stefanovic agreed with the hotel's dress code, calling eshays "a scourge on society".

"All you eshays, look out, we see you and we don't like you," he said.

"Back in the day, we would have locked them in Boggo Road for ten years, but we can't do that these days."
