Luke Walford, 40, was fishing on Humpy Island in The Keppels when a shark bit him on the neck at 4.37pm yesterday.
Emergency services arrived and found him with significant injuries to his neck, which were considered to be life-threatening, a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told 9news.com.au.
Walford died from his injuries just after 6pm yesterday, Queensland police confirmed.
Member for Keppel Nigel Hutton MP said "the thoughts and prayers of the community go out to the family" following the death.
A helicopter was sent to the scene with a medical team on board.
Humpy Island is one of the most popular islands in the Keppels known for camping, diving and snorkelling.
