Who is Kit Kemp? Everything you need to know about the renowned interior designer

Tom and Sarah-Jane have impressed the judges with plenty of their rooms so far, but their latest bedroom reveal got some very high praise from Neale Whitaker. 

Neale believes Sarah-Jane should go into hotel design after The Block, because the rooms they've presented are so well designed to be different, but also so well connected, Scott Cam relayed during judging.

"These rooms are colour coded, like you'd have in a hotel. And there's a favourite, favourite designer of mine which I'm sure you both know, Kit Kemp in London," Neale said. 

"The master of creating rooms that are all slightly different, all slightly unique, but at the same time connected." 

Scotty admitted it was a huge compliment to get, because she's one of the best hotel designers in the world.

Who is Kit Kemp?

When it comes to the world of interiors, Kit Kemp hardly needs an introduction, but for those of you who aren't familiar with her, she's a renowned interior designer, author and Firmdale Hotels founder, which she co-owns with her husband Tim.

Kit is self taught in interior design and has become known for how she can combine colour, print and pattern in unexpected ways.

To say her style is unique is an understatement.

Think bespoke embroidered textiles, whimsical touches that don't become a maximal statement in the space, punchy design but with details and a cohesiveness that tie her spaces together. Kit uses her own childhood influences in her design process, too.

"I've decided I have five Cs at the core of my style aesthetic: color; character; craft; comfort; curation," Kit explained during an interview with Homes and Gardens.

"Of course, we should also add a sixth one – the cost – as you must never forget about that. These all apply whether you are putting together the largest building or the smallest room."

What hotels has Kit Kemp designed? 

Kit Kemp has designed hotels for Firmdale, which has 10 properties, with eight hotels in London including Ham Yard Hotel, the Soho Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel, Haymarket Hotel, Number Sixteen Hotel and Knightsbridge Hotel, and two in New York, The Whitby Hotel and Crosby Street Hotel.

After becoming such a big name in the design world, of course Kit Kemp is now an author to several design books.

Over the years Kit has collaborated with global brands including Chelsea Textiles, Fine Cell Work, Andrew Martin, Christopher Farr, Wedgwood, Wilton Carpets and Anthropologie creating collections including tableware, furniture, carpets, fabrics and wallpapers.
