Police search Lake Mulwala for missing teenager after fishing incident
A 16-year-old boy is missing after the tinny he was in was hit by a wave on Lake Mulwala near the NSW border.

Emergency services are searching for a teenage boy after a boating incident on Lake Mulwala, on the New South Wales-Victoria border.

Key points:
  • Emergency services are searching Lake Mulwala for a missing teenager
  • It is believed he fell overboard while fishing with another teen
  • Two bystanders swam to help but were only able to bring one teenager safely to shore

Police said the two 16-year-old boys went fishing in a tinny just before 9am on Sunday.

The pair left from Silverwoods Boulevard in Yarrawonga.

It is believed the boys' boat was hit by a wave and both fell overboard.

It is believed two men saw the teenagers struggling and swam to offer help.

They managed to pull one of the teens to safety, but when they returned for the second teen they could not find him.

Emergency services, including search and rescue officers, airwing, SES and police divers searched the lake for the missing teen.

A police spokeswoman said patrols would continue throughout the night.

The water-based search is expected to resume on Monday.
