Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie appeared to leave Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral early on Monday as millions of royal fans around the world tuned in to watch the service live.

Her Majesty’s coffin was driven to Windsor Castle following the emotional service at Westminster Abbey where members of the royal family, world leaders and politicians gathered to commemorate a life dedicated to service.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, the two children of the Duke and Duchess of York and grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II, were spotted leaving the funeral before others in the congregation.

Their mother Sarah Ferguson appeared as though she wished to join the royal sisters, aged 32 and 32, as they went to leave.

However, the two siblings were later seen outside Westminster Abbey with the rest of the royal family as the Queen's coffin was travelled out, The Sun reported.

Although Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie appeared to have not left altogether, it remains unclear exactly why they walked out of the service early.

Confused royal fans took to Twitter to question the disappearance of the sisters.

"Does anyone know why Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie up and left?" one wrote.

"Any idea why Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice left the funeral prior to the coffin?" another added.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie paid tribute to their "dearest Grannie" Queen Elizabeth II in a joint statement released a day prior to the funeral.

The two sisters remembered “their matriarch" and “guide” in a shared statement posted to Princess Eugenie’s Instagram on Saturday.

"Our dearest Grannie, we've not been able to put much into words since you left us all,” the royal siblings wrote.

“There have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and a collective loss for you, our beloved Queen and our beloved Grannie."

The Queen has been buried in the tiny, quaint King George VI Memorial Chapel next to her husband Prince Philip.

Buckingham Palace confirmed Her Majesty had been laid to rest in a brief statement following her burial service.

“The Queen was buried together with the Duke of Edinburgh, at The King George VI Memorial Chapel,” the statement on the Royal Family’s website read.

Following the grand funeral at Westminster Abbey, the Queen's coffin travelled the more than 40-minute journey to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle where it was carried up the steps harking back to images of the path her late husband Prince Philip took last year.
