Real Madrid have sealed a Copa del Rey title for the first time since 2014 as they beat Osasuna 2-1 in the 2023 final at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

Carlo Ancelotti's side picked up their first major trophy of the season, ahead of a midweek Champions League semmifinal against Manchester City, with a battling showing against Osasuna.

Rodrygo Goes' quickfire opener looked to set Los Blancos up for a dominant night in Andalucia but they were pushed hard by Jagoba Arrasate's underdogs.

Lucas Torro's second half thunderbolt deservedly forced Osasuna back into the contest, before Rodrygo kept his calm once again inside the box, to ease Real Madrid over the line.

Big game Rodrygo ready for City start

Rodrygo has developed a reputation for scoring big goals at key times since he netted on his Real Madrid debut in 2019. Ancelotti has continued to place increased faith in the Brazilian international, and he has developed physically and technically in the last 12 months.

Ancelotti has previously opted for Fede Valverde's combativeness in his Champions League attacking trios, but Rodrygo's form, and dead-eye ability in front of goal, make him a certainty to start against Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal.

Key for Real Madrid Copa del Rey title

Spanish veteran right-back Dani Carvajal survived a few scares against Barcelona loanee Abde Ezzalzouli of Osasuna to turn in a dogged defensive performance.

Three key tackles prevented Osasuna from forcing themselves back into the contest and his experience and fight will be needed up against Manchester City's Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva.

On the opposite flank, French star Eduardo Camavinga continued to calmly impress as an emergency left-back, with Ferland Mendy still not fit.

Mendy and Nacho Fernandez are more natural picks to play the position, but Camavainga's recovery pace and ability to link in with midfield will keep him in the starting team.
