The Real Meaning Of Ted's Conversations With Eddie In Suits LA ...

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Suits LA episode 1, "Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sundays."Suits LA episode 1 features some emotional conversations between Ted and his older brother, Eddie, and these talks are important to the show's story moving forward. Amid a rather intense pilot for the Suits spinoff, series creator Aaron Korsh balances it out with a few quieter moments for Stephen Amell's protagonist. Unlike Ted's calm but ominous discussion with Samantha on the heels of Stuart's betrayal, his talks with Eddie offer him solace as he comes home to him after a hard day at work. These scenes are pivotal to Suits LA's story as his story unfolds.
Amid the absence of Harvey Specter and Mike Ross in Suits LA, the spinoff focuses on its own characters. "Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sunday" juggles way too many plot points for viewers to get the full picture of what's happening. Despite that, Ted's relationship with Eddie, although separated from what's going on in his professional life, is expected to be a major part of the show, even with the reveal that the older Black brother has already passed away. Eddie's talks with Ted could be the catalyst to many future narratives, including his possible reconciliation with Stuart.
Eddie's Ghost Represents Ted's Softer Side In Suits LA
Korsh Explains The True Meaning Of Eddie's Ghost

Not much is revealed about what exactly happened with Eddie in the Suits LA premiere. Ted's begrudging visit to his dying father suggests that the Black patriarch had something to do with the death of his eldest son and that Amell's protagonist blames him for it. While Ted's hallucinated talks with his brother when he comes home can be very well a way to cope with his grief, Korsh reveals that Eddie represents the softer side of Suits LA's usually ruthless lawyer (via TV Line). Read his full explanation below:
So Eddie is most often, in my mind, the voice of forgiveness. It’s Ted’s softer side that Ted might not be in touch with. So Eddie encourages him to maybe forgive his father, or maybe forgive Stuart, or whatever the case may be. But he appears at times throughout the season in the present day, and at times, throughout the season in the past.

So while Eddie is dead in the present time, Suits LA will continue to feature him in a couple of ways. "Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sunday" already established that flashbacks will be a major part of the spinoff's storytelling. Because of that, expect that more of Eddie and Ted's relationship in the past will be focused on explaining some of the latter's decisions and actions amid the brewing battle with Stuart. Admittedly, Suits' flashback sequences weren't exactly well-received, but the offshoot makes them mandatory since so much of what's happening is tied to the characters' pasts.

Suits LA expands Aaron Korsh's franchise with new lawyers to follow, but those hoping for a new Mike and Harvey should temper their expectations.
Ted's conversations with Eddie's ghosts will also continue, as it offers Suits LA a chance to highlight his vulnerable side. This is particularly important because he will likely be on guard moving forward following Stuart and Rick's betrayal. Unfortunately, he hasn't developed a deep enough relationship with Erica, even though she is his most trusted ally at this point. Ultimately, as long as Ted continues to have these discussions with his late brother, the door is open for him and Stuart to eventually team-up again.
