Iran and USA lock horns in their final Group B fixture of the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday as they fight for a place in the last 16.

Team Melli find themselves in second place in the table after responding to their 6-2 defeat to England in their opening fixture with a well deserved 2-0 victory over Wales four days later, leaving them one point behind the Three Lions ahead of their final game.

But the Stars and Stripes remain unbeaten following two successive draws against the same opposition, although anything but a win will see them knocked out of the World Cup as they sit behind both Iran and England in the standings.

Iran vs USA will kick-off at 7pm (GMT) on Tuesday, November 29 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

This will be just the third ever meeting between the two sides but their second in World Cup competition, following on from Iran’s 2-1 victory in the group stage of the 1998 tournament in France at the Stade de Gerland in Lyon.

However, the most recent meeting came in January 2000 as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in an international friendly at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Former Manchester United assistant manager Chris Armas secured a draw for the hosts.

With a draw set to all but confirm their place in the knockout stages, Iran boss Carlos Queiroz will look to the same side which grabbed a vital three points against Wales in their last fixture as he aims for a similar outcome against the USA on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand (concussion) will be expected to return between the sticks if he is eligible to face USA, but Hossein Hosseini has staked his claim for a starting spot after keeping a clean sheet against Wales. Ahmad Noorollahi (knock) is also a doubt in midfield, meaning Ali Karimi could come back into the side as his replacement.

As for the USA, they must simply win in order to go through. Anything else will see them knocked out of the tournament, so head coach Gregg Berhalter could also use the same side for a second consecutive game following their impressive performance against England.

Norwich forward Josh Sargent will look to regain his starting spot from Haji Wright after dropping to the bench in the last game, although that may depend on whether Berhalter reverts back to a 4-3-3. Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah should start in midfield, with Timothy Weah and Christian Pulisic on either flank.
